Simple Solutions That Can Help Prevent Acne

When it comes to keeping your skin in shape, it's not always easy. Many of us have felt the same before an important meeting or a big date – the horror of finding a massive pimple emerging. But did you know there are amazingly simple and effective ways to make sure this scenario never happens again? When it comes to acne, prevention is often the best treatment. These tips can decrease the frequency and severity of your breakouts. Or better yet, stop them altogether.

 1. You Are What You Eat

The food we put in our bodies can come back to haunt us in pimple form. Sugar, refined carbohydrates and dairy are the main offenders. Instead of munching on these, make sure to eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, particularly foods with high levels of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin B5 and Zinc. A multivitamin a day can help. Dairy products often come from hormone-fed animals that can contain high levels of androgen, so try limiting your dairy intake or choosing organic products. Also, drinking 8 glasses of water a day will keep you and your skin refreshed and hydrated.

 2. Get Moving

Exercising regularly not only benefits your body, but your skin too. It’s a great way to reduce stress, plus excess sweating cleanses pores by pushing accumulated gunk to the surface of your skin. Just make sure to wipe sweat off with a clean towel and thoroughly cleanse your face afterwards.

 3. Tame Your Hormones

For those of you who think it’s impossible to control how and when acne-causing hormones flood your body, it’s true – sometimes we can’t alter what our bodies do. But there are glimmers of hope. For instance, the hormones released when people are stressed have been linked as being a major cause of acne. Although it may not be easy, try to relax to keep breakouts at bay. As for the ladies who suffer from PMS-related breakouts, many women find birth control pills useful for regulating estrogen levels, but always consult your doctor.

 4. Bacteria, Oil and Dirt Be Gone

Of course you know that bacteria, oil and dirt cause acne, but how they sneak onto your face may surprise you. First and foremost, keep your hands off of your face as they can spread bacteria and irritate inflamed, sensitive skin. The natural oils on your hair, as well as the pore-clogging ingredients in hair-styling products, can also stick to your skin, so keep your hair pulled back. And make sure to wash your pillow cases weekly as the dirt, oil and dead skin cells can accumulate and lay the groundwork for blemishes even as you sleep.

5. Clean Your Skin Daily

The best approach to preventing acne is to cleanse your face twice a day with a cleanser that suits your skin type – but make sure to wash your hands first, use warm water, be gentle and don’t scrub too hard. In combination with these steps, the most effective way of cleansing your face of oil, dirt and other impurities is to use the LUNA mini 2, designed specifically to do what your hands cannot – provide the gentlest, deepest clean while removing acne-producing matter. Never go to sleep with your makeup on, and make sure the makeup you wear is oil-free, free of dyes and harsh chemicals, and labeled as non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores. Exfoliating your face on a weekly basis will also help get rid of dead skin cells and unclog pores.     Although incorporating these acne prevention tips into your daily life may seem daunting at first, with a little effort, they are steps everyone can accomplish. Try them out – your skin will thank you later.   Disclaimer: The information on this website and any related links are for general informational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for professional advice.
