Treat Yourself: Tips and Tricks for Managing Rosacea and Psoriasis

rosacea treatments
Our round-up of the best ways to manage some serious skin issues. While some of us are blessed with the perfect skin and a glowing complexion, not all of us count ourselves lucky. Rosacea and psoriasis are two common, unrelenting skin conditions that affect over 7.5 million people in the United States alone according to the American Academy of Dermatology. The good news is both psoriasis and rosacea can be treated and managed with the help of medicine, skincare products and even lifestyle changes. Read below to discover a few different ways to help calm down your red, irritated skin for good.

What is Rosacea and Psoriasis?

People with psoriasis know that it's more than "just a skin condition." The chronic autoimmune disease causes cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin, leaving red, inflamed, scaly patches. The patches can be itchy and sore, and sometimes they even crack and bleed. While it isn’t 100% curable, it is treatable with the right medicine and products that can make a big difference in a sufferer’s quality of life. Rosacea, on the other hand, is known for causing redness, acne, and irritated skin. It can be aggravated by a number of environmental factors as well such as diet, alcohol and stress. Depending on the severity of rosacea, there are a range of ways to help calm it down.

Lifestyle Changes

A few small changes to your daily habits can make a world of difference in your skin. Try figuring out what triggers your flare ups, whether that be a certain type of food or stress, and work towards managing this trigger. For example, practicing meditation or even giving yourself a gentle facial massage each day can help significantly reduce stress. Long term, try making the switch to non-toxic cosmetics, free of harsh chemicals and dyes that might irritate your skin.

Medication

This may be the obvious, but most effective route for many suffering from rosacea or psoriasis. Depending on the severity of your condition, your dermatologist may recommend any number of prescription medications to treat your condition.

LED Light Therapy

If you’re looking for a gentle at-home or out patient treatment to help your skin, LED light therapy is known to help with redness. With a range of skincare products on the shelves that feature LED light therapy, there’s no harm in trying this noninvasive and painless solution. FOREO’s latest innovation, UFO, is a smart mask that contains three types of LED lights which offer a range of skincare treatments in only 90 seconds!   Disclaimer: The information on this website and any related links are for general informational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for professional advice. I have rosacea on my left cheek and am getting serious about finding an effective treatment as I've had it consistently for 9 years now. I'm looking for any help I can get. Thanks for your tips here.

I’m about to buy the UFO 2 - which masks are best suited for rosacea?

Hi Natasha, In order to reduce or control the symptoms of rosacea skin, we recommend a mask that helps with hydration of the skin and also reduces inflammation of the face. So, you can try our Green Tea mask that hydrates and soothes the skin to keep it dazzling and healthy. In addition, it helps calm irritated skin and is rich in antioxidants, the same ones that help protect and rejuvenate the appearance of the skin.

On the other hand, you can also try our H2Overdose Mask, which, among other things, repairs the skin's natural hydration barrier to prevent loss of hydration.

However with any skin condition and the use of our products we do recommend that you speak to your dermatologist.

We hope this helps :)

I have type 2 rosacea in combination with possibly seborrheic dermatitis that started two years ago and has been progressively spreading/getting worse. I'm really interested in the yellow light and wonder how you recommend using it. I just bought the UFO 2 and am waiting for it to arrive. None of your masks use yellow light as part of the programmed treatment.

Also, all of your masks have fragrance/parfum in it. Is it natural fragrance? I'm worried it will irritate my skin. Will you make anything without fragrance and targeted especially for problem skin like mine (red and dry/combination)? Thank you!

Dear Chrissy, thank you for sharing your problem here with us and setting interesting questions. Please note that it is not recommended to use the UFO™ 2 without the UFO™ 2 activated masks covering the metal plate. You can, however, use the lights on your UFO™ 2 by holding the device above your skin to shine the light over your skin. However, it is not recommended to press the bare metal plate (without any mask covering it) while the heating or cooling options are turned on against your skin. Regardless of your UFO™ 2 device not having a yellow light, you will still get to experience the same effect once you use it as we recommended in the sentence before. Rest assured that our masks contain ingredients that do not represent any threat as they are plant-based, biodegradable, and full of nutrients. Hope this helps! We wish you a nice week. Best regards :)

I bought Foreo UFO 2, I use it and it didn't help me with rosacea. At first I thought the mask was to blame, I think that whoever has rosacea should not use heat and it worsens the condition. There is an option where you can set it to cold in the Applikation. You don't have to use Foreo masks if you are afraid. I will contact you in a week if my skin is better.

I'm thinking you would use the yellow rather than the red and maybe on a cooling setting?
