Seasonal Foods That Will Put a Spring in Your Step
Discover 6 energizing & delicious fruits & veggies! Spring has officially arrived, bringing warmer, wetter weather and a new selection of colorful produce at the farmer’s market. After a winter spent on the couch with takeout and Netflix, it’s time to spring clean your diet and give yourself the boost of energy you need to enjoy spring to the fullest! These six seasonal fruits and vegetables are part of a healthy, balanced diet that you (and your skin) will love!
Spinach
This leafy green rose to pop-culture fame as Popeye’s instant muscle booster, and though it doesn’t quite work that way (unfortunately), spinach does have some amazing health benefits. It is (obviously) green, which means it’s rich in chlorophyll. That sunlight energy will go a long way to invigorate your body, not to mention all the vitamins & minerals spinach boasts, including zinc, iron, calcium, folate, magnesium, Vitamins A, C, E, K & B6 that contribute to beautiful skin (among other things). Like Popeye said, “I am strong to the finich… ‘Cause I eats me spinach.”
Grapefruit
Grapefruit, whose botanical name means "fruit of paradise," are a regular in delicious spring salads. The pink and ruby red variations contain lycopene not found in white varieties. This is the same powerful antioxidant that gives tomatoes, apricots, papaya, and watermelon their color. Grapefruits are also a good source of dietary fiber, to keep things in your colon movin’ right along.
Asparagus
Actually a member of the lily family, asparagus is probably best known for causing a certain unique urinary odor. But you may not have known that a single serving of asparagus provides two-thirds of your recommended daily intake of folate, which synthesizes neurotransmitters like serotonin & dopamine that contribute to your overall mood—bye bye winter blues!
Pineapples
This nutrient-dense fruit has become something of a recent fashion trend, showing up on everything from jewelry to footwear. But the pineapple is more than just a pretty face—it’s chock full of Vitamin C, making it a tasty way to keep those spring sniffles at bay.
Artichokes
Artichokes can be difficult to work with because of their sturdy exterior, but it’s worth the effort since the hearts are one of the most antioxidant-rich foods available. Fighting free radicals will keep you feeling like a spring chicken.
Strawberries
Last, but certainly not least, strawberries! Historically, strawberries were a luxury item enjoyed only by royalty, like many fruits. Today, they are a delicious, more accessible part of the spring season. Their vibrant red color comes from large amounts of anthocyanidin, which exhibit powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that have some serious anti-aging capabilities. With so many yummy options arriving on your grocer’s shelves, now is the perfect time to spring into the habit of healthy eating., but that's not the only way to give your skin the fresh glow of vitamins, just check out our day cleanser infused with bergamot, mandarin and apricot extract!
