DIY Time: Make Your Own Sheet Masks in 5 Simple Steps

For when you’re at home looking for some much-needed beauty TLC.   With the explosion of sheet masks in the beauty world over the past few years, we’ve seen a wide variety of formulas hit the shelves. While all of the snail infused and collagen masks out there do sound wonderful, they can be pricey. If you’re looking for a cheaper and more natural alternative to sheet masks, we’re here to help. DIY sheet masks are not only easy to make, they can also be completely customized to suit your skin’s specific needs depending on what ingredients you use. Here’s our DIY guide to making a sheet mask in the comfort of your own home.

First Things First: The Mask

If you know how to properly use a sheet mask, you’ll probably be wondering where you can find the perfect cloth to soak up the skin-loving formula you’re about to create. Luckily for you, soft cotton or fiber cloths complete with eye, nose and lip holes can be found online for under $10. However, if you’re too excited to wait for the masks to arrive in the mail, or you want to take the hardcore DIY route, you can also try using paper towels (just be sure to poke out holes for the eyes, nose and mouth, for, y’know, breathing and seeing.)

DIY Sheet Mask Formulas

Now the fun part: creating your customized sheet mask formula. Whether you’re concerned about keeping your skin acne-free or are just in the mood for a good old detox, here are some formula ideas to mix up and give your skin exactly what it needs.

Hydrating & Anti-Aging Sheet Mask

Replenish your skin with the natural elements of rosehip oil and honey. Rosehip oil is perfect for treating aging skin as it is full of vitamins and essential fatty acids, while honey is able to draw moisture into the skin. What you’ll Need:
  • Distilled water
  • Honey
  • Rosehip seed oil
Instructions:
  1. Combine ¼ cup of distilled water, ½ teaspoon of honey and 5-7 drops of rosehip oil into a bowl
  2. Stir the ingredients together with a spoon or a fork until evenly mixed
  3. Gently dip your DIY mask into the bowl until it is fully saturated in the formula
  4. Remove mask from formula and squeeze excess liquid out until mask stops dripping
  5. Place mask gently over face and leave on for 15 minutes or longer

Acne Fighting Sheet Mask

Essential oils are great for soothing and purifying your skin. Tea tree and eucalyptus oils have antibacterial properties that help to battle acne while rose water will sooth your skin. When combined all together- you have the perfect acne-fighting solution. What You’ll Need:
  • Rose water
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Eucalyptus oil
  1. Combine 3 drops of rose water, 5 drops of tea tree oil and 5 drops of eucalyptus oil in a bowl
  2. Stir the ingredients together with a spoon or a fork until evenly mixed
  3. Gently dip your DIY mask into the bowl until it is fully saturated in the formula
  4. Remove mask from formula and squeeze excess liquid out until mask stops dripping
  5. Place mask gently over face and leave on for 30 minutes

Detoxifying Sheet Mask

Give your skin some much needed R&R with this organic sheet mask formula. Using oats, milk and green tea you can get a full detox in only 20 minutes. Oats used in the formula will exfoliate the face, while milk and green tea serve as a potent antioxidant that will make the skin smooth and supple. What You’ll Need:
  • Oats
  • Milk
  • Green Tea
  1. In a bowl, mix together equal parts of oat, milk and green tea
  2. Using a spoon, whisk formula together until it blends evenly
  3. Gently dip your DIY mask into the bowl until it is fully saturated in the formula
  4. Remove mask from formula and squeeze excess liquid out until mask stops dripping
  5. Place mask gently over face and leave on for 20 minutes
Ready to start making your face potion? Depending on your skin’s needs you can even mix and match some of the above ingredients to create your own mask formula. ...And if you’re looking to impress your besties during your next girls night in...look no further.

Thank you for your input! Lemon juice is quite acidic so please use with caution especially with sensitive skins and areas such as nose, eyes and lips.

Great ideas! I want to try one with coffee to shrink the capillaries and reduce puffiness. I hope it works!

Dear Angela, That is great to hear and glad that you want to try this. Nothing like a coffee in the morning and face mask at the same time :)

Hi Roger, we wouldn't recommend using these homemade masks with the UFO 2 as the FOREO UFO masks are specifically designed to withstand the heating and cooling technology along with the T-Sonic pulsations. Otherwise, this could be a messy and uncomfortable experience. Hope this helps :)

Hi Katherine, These will be good to be left on the skin to be fully absorbed.
