When most people hear the word "charcoal," they likely think of barbecues and summertime. However, this black powder has many other uses, including some pertaining to beauty. In fact, charcoal benefits for skin, teeth, and hair are numerous. If you're curious about how to use it and what to know before using it, read on.

What is activated charcoal?

As its name suggests activated charcoal represents charcoal containing active elements. It activates when a high heat exposure increases its purity and increases its surface area. Activated charcoal is therefore porous and can absorb toxins, and this ingredient is known as an antioxidant for the skin. This jet-black powder is effective for binding to the tiny pores which accumulate underneath the skin and build up dirt and chemicals. The ingredients used in this product are natural materials such as wood shells, coconut, wood fiber, and coal. The skin can be easily protected with natural ingredients.

Wellness uses of activated charcoal

Before the earliest people started using charcoal, they ingested activated charcoal. Although it remains unclear whether charcoal helps us internally, centuries before humans started drinking it to treat food poisoning. The use of detoxifying pills in alcoholic beverages has become increasingly widespread. This is available in health food stores today (active charcoal lemonade and detox juice are the most commonly used).

Charcoal benefits for teeth

This is another common use for activated charcoal. Activated charcoal can bind to bacteria and remove toxins from the mouth therefore creating cleaner teeth, gums, and even a brighter smile. If you are looking to whiten your teeth, it's easy to do at home using charcoal. [caption id="attachment_12266" align="aligncenter" width="803"] Simply mix together one capsule of activated charcoal with warm water or coconut oil to form a paste.[/caption] Simply mix together one capsule of activated charcoal with warm water or coconut oil to form a paste. Gently brush your teeth with the activated charcoal toothpaste for two minutes, making sure to avoid your gums. Rinse well and brush your teeth as usual with toothpaste. It's important to note that while activated charcoal can help remove surface stains on teeth, it will not change the natural color of your teeth.

To maximize the benefits of charcoal, it is important to use a gentle toothbrush. Speaking of that, meet FOREO's ISSA 3, your forever toothbrush. ISSA 3 cleans it all. I am using active charcoal in the face mask. Its good to know that Mate Maniac mask also contains it because I feel like charcoal directly on the skin is sometimes too harsh.
