I Tried Fake Bangs & This is What Happened

Things got a little hairy... Cutting bangs is emotional territory; is it really just a haircut or is it a desperate cry for help? As one of the only hair decisions that can fundamentally change your look, this is not something one enters into lightly. So when I found myself longingly scrolling through the trendy fringe hairstyles filling my Instagram feed, I decided I should take one for a test drive—enter fake bangs. Just like any other clip-in hair extension, fake bangs come in a plethora of colors so you can find a set that closely matches your hue. Admittedly, finding a perfect match is more difficult than it seems, especially if you’re in that awkward growing-out stage of a dye job. But I never intended to wear mine outside the house, so I figured close enough was close enough and hurried home to meet the new me. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight. If I squinted my eyes just right, I didn’t even notice the mismatched color. The person in the mirror was exactly the kind of quirky gal I'd always known I was. But I still wasn’t sure I wanted to go under the scissors. See, I am a lazy girl - I’m all about finding the easiest ways to look great. Bangs require a level of dedication that doesn’t exactly vibe with my 20-minute morning routine. So, they were tossed into the dark abyss that is my makeup bag, and forgotten. Until the day I revealed the contents of that bag for a MYSA article. Once that little tuft of fake hair made an appearance, everyone in the office wanted to try it on for size. And I mean everyone.

Watching everyone play with fake bangs made me realize cutting bangs wasn’t such a serious ordeal. It’s only hair after all - it will grow back. So, I booked an appointment and took the plunge. No ragerts.
