Former Bachelor Contestant Michelle Money Spills Her Beauty Tips
We catch up with the reality TV starlet to talk date-night beauty, the power of brows, and more.
Despite your opinion of reality television, you can’t deny its effect on the face of modern beauty. From the doll-like perfection of the Kardashians to the expert hair extensions on the harem of Real Housewives, the ultra-high beauty standards of reality TV stars have always fascinated us. So naturally we jumped at the chance to interview Michelle Money, the contestant who made waves on The Bachelor, The Bachelor in Paradise, and now, Marriage Bootcamp. But in addition to her bold personality, but we love her for her flawless look: mermaid waves, statement-making pink lipstick, and even the occasional bohemian headpiece. We caught up with the professional hairstylist and reality TV star to talk beauty regrets, brows, and more.
How did you get into beauty?
I started my career doing makeup at Estée Lauder and really fell in love with it. I had some opportunities to do makeup for photo shoots and film and realized that adding “professional hairstylist” to my résumé would get me more work, so I decided to go to school for it. I’m so glad I did!
What are your hair and makeup tricks for looking good on camera?
False lashes are a must, always go just a bit bolder with your lip, and don’t forget to keep your nose powdered! My best hair tricks are extensions and dry shampoo.
Did you pick up any tips from the other contestants on the show?
Emily Maynard introduced me to the Temptu airbrush makeup system. I really love using it for anything that involves being in the water (it literally doesn’t budge), and it for smoothing out my legs and arms.
How did you keep your hair and makeup looking good in the heat when you were on Bachelor in Paradise?
That’s tricky for sure! The best thing to do is realize that when you have more color on your face, you don’t need as much makeup. Don’t bother with foundation if you don’t have to. Less is more. Lash extensions are a great idea to help your makeup-free face still look put together. Add a touch of lip gloss, and you’re good to go!
Do you have any beauty regrets from your Bachelor days?
There were definitely some days where I was so tired that I didn’t want to put makeup on for interviews when I definitely should have! Even just a coat of mascara would have done the job.
Do you have a signature date-night look?
I love effortless beauty. Pairing skinny jeans with a distressed fitted tee shirt and lots of jewelry is my go to look! Wild hair and a bold lip always does the trick for me.
What’s your best makeup tip?
Understanding the power of your eyebrows! Only let someone with a license shape your brows. Do not trust your friends, family members, or even yourself to take on the task of shaping your brows. Walk away from the tweezers and leave it up to the experts! But knowing how to fill your brows in correctly is the most powerful makeup tip a woman can master.
We’ve heard you’re a fan of the FOREO LUNA™ and we’re flattered!
The LUNA is a tool I have had in my box of tricks for about five years or so. I fell in love the first time I tried it! The silicone texture is what makes it so amazing. It gives my skin a thorough cleanse, but leaves it soft and silky. It takes the effort out of washing my face morning and night and turns it into a luxurious experience that makes me feel fresh and clean.
On TV and your beauty vlogs you really have to put yourself out there (hello, face shaving). What are your tips for staying confident?
Being confident is not something that happens overnight. Confidence is a process. For me, it comes with speaking my truth. As long as I am sharing my truth and owning it, I feel the most beautiful and confident in my skin. I genuinely love to share the things that work for me! Shaving and all!
